Scott Street Magazine is an independent publication I co-founded with two classmates during our time in the MDes Communication Design programme at the Glasgow School of Art. Originally a GSA publication, it has since evolved into a student-led platform celebrating Glasgow’s creative community. Scott Street became a space to connect with Glasgow’s wider arts scene while pushing our own creative practice.

Objective

Strategy

To create a student-led platform that allowed us, as newcomers to Glasgow, to connect with the city’s vibrant creative community. Through interviews, features, and editorial design, Scott Street Magazine aimed to celebrate local talent while providing space to experiment with independent publishing and collaborative design practice.

Our approach was rooted in collaboration, experimentation, and community-building. We featured interviews with local artists, designers, and musicians to foster creative dialogue and highlight voices across Glasgow. Design and editorial responsibilities were rotated between the three of us, allowing each issue to reflect diverse perspectives and stylistic approaches. We treated the magazine as a space to push the boundaries of editorial design — experimenting with typography, layout, and print. By also showcasing work from Glasgow School of Art students, we aimed to bridge institutional and independent creative spaces, making the publication a platform for both visibility and connection.

From February 2023 to March 2024, I was actively involved in shaping the magazine’s voice and visual identity — contributing to editorial direction, conducting interviews with local artists, designers, and musicians, and designing selected front covers and inner spreads.
