The BBC 100 card
Data Visualisation
Graphic Design
The BBC 100 Test Card is an interactive data visualization project and artefact illustrating the BBC's impact on the British public, using a jigsaw motif to represent perceptions of its mission. Three laser-cut MDF jigsaw puzzles, each depicting elements of the test card, convey specific dataset parameters. Viewers can interact with the pieces, revealing precise values, while a silver grid frame, featuring an image of the original test card's iconic figure, unites the modern reinterpretation in honor of its 100th anniversary.
Objective
Strategy
To visualise the BBC's impact on the British public and celebrate their 100th Anniversary in the form of a physical artefact. The project must have a form of interaction to garner more engagement and curiosity in the information portrayed.
Data Visualisation is one of my many fields of interest, and visualising the impact of BBC on the public could be portrayed through real data recorded from the people. Instead of traditional charts or bar graphs, the project portrays the information in an interactive and engaging way. The act of physically engaging with the artefact is crucial, as it allows the audience to process the necessary information in a more involved manner. The project is presented as three tangrams laser cut on MDF that combine to form a modern recreation of the famous BBC Test card F. It pays homage to the cultural icon and ensures the audience's active participation in the data visualization process.
